Do You Need a Dependent Pass?
A Dependent Pass allows your spouse and children to stay with you in Malaysia while you work on an Employment Pass. Determine your family’s eligibility below.
β NEW June 2026: All three Employment Pass categories (I, II, and III) now qualify for dependent sponsorship if applications are submitted on or after 1 June 2026. EP III holders with passes issued before 1 June 2026 must renew to access dependent eligibility.
Who is Eligible for Dependent Pass?
Only family members with direct relationship to the Employment Pass holder can apply for Dependent Pass. Immigration has specific requirements for each family category.
π Important: Children must be under 18 and unmarried. Once a child reaches 18, they lose Dependent Pass status. If still in full-time education, they can apply for a Student Pass or Long-Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP) instead to continue staying in Malaysia. Plan this transition at least 3 months before the 18th birthday.
Documents Required for Dependent Pass Application
Each dependent family member needs specific documentation. Missing documents are a common reason for delays and rejections.
For Both Spouse & Children:
Dependent Pass Processing Timeline
Dependent Pass is typically processed together with the main Employment Pass. Timeline is usually faster since verification focuses on family relationship rather than job eligibility.
β±οΈ Total Processing Time: 4β8 weeks from application to visa approval. Dependent Pass is usually faster than main EP because it’s linked to an already-approved EP holder. Processing time depends on document completeness and Immigration workload.
After Approval: Conditions & Ongoing Obligations
Once Dependent Pass is approved, your family must follow strict conditions to maintain visa validity and avoid cancellation.
